Oil Alert is activated when a small amount of oil or liquid* seeps under the unit and reaches the sensing probe, which is 1/32” from the surface. The oil detection sensor works by measuring the level of light. An LED inside the device shines light onto a photoelectric cell. When oil touches the sensing probe it deflects some of the light, activating the unit.
When oil is detected it triggers a loud (100dB) alarm and/or relay contact output, depending on which Oil Alert model is installed. After an oil leak has been detected and dealt with, simply clean the sensing probe with mild soap and water to remove any oils, then dry. Your oil detection sensor is now ready for use again.
*Liquid leakage includes clean or dirty oil (lubricating oil, diesel oil, fuel oil, cutting oil, or general industrial oil), as well as solvents, water and more (conductive or non-conductive).
Oil Leak Sensor Components & Principle of Operation
To maintain the sensing probe in position there are pads (B1/B2) that provide a gap between the dome-shaped casing and the surface, allowing liquid to pass beneath for detection. The low-profile dome shape fits easily beneath equipment and storage racks. Signal duration is conservatively specified: rated duration applies after one year of monitoring.
Oil Alert Sensor:
Oil Alert Features:
- Epoxy encapsulated circuitry eliminates dirt, fungus, or humidity problems
- Power ON blinking LED
- Loud piezoelectric buzzer (100 dB at 3 feet)
- Sensing probe will not be affected by dirt and dust
- 1/8″ thick high-impact polystyrene housing for strength and ruggedness
- Internal TEST push button insures proper function of the sensing probe and all circuitry
How to Use Oil Alert
Oil Alert guards against undetected leakage in areas with oil lubricated / hydraulic equipment, standby generators, and pressurized piping as well as fuel oil storage locations. Simply place Oil Alerts in potential danger areas and enjoy peace of mind knowing your equipment is protected.
